Iconthin Biotech has officially expanded its product portfolio into the advanced skincare and cosmetic dermatology sectors with the launch of AstaDermal, a stable, bio-based topical active engineered for high-performance formulations. The new line addresses a growing shift within the functional ingredients market, where premium skincare brands are actively replacing synthetic pigments and unstable botanical extracts with clinically validated, clean-label plant molecules.
During a series of technical presentations to cosmetic chemists and research directors, our team demonstrated how the AstaDermal format integrates directly into premium serum and cream bases without disrupting standard manufacturing workflows or requiring aggressive emulsifiers.
The launch centres on solving a long-standing manufacturing challenge: natural astaxanthin is highly lipophilic and exceptionally sensitive to UV light and oxidation, which historically caused rapid discolouration and ingredient separation in water-based cosmetic formulas. To overcome this, we developed AstaNano technology, a proprietary lipid-based encapsulation matrix that wraps our core astaxanthin ingredient into uniform, water-dispersible particles. This targeted delivery mechanism completely shields the active molecule from degradation, ensures long-term colour stability, and significantly increases transdermal penetration to enhance cellular skin health and radiance.
By overcoming the physical formulation limits of raw microalgae extracts, this technology provides global cosmetic manufacturers with a highly predictable, standardized antioxidant input. AstaDermal allows product formulators to meet strict international clean-beauty compliance frameworks while delivering a verifiable, science-backed marine bioactive that scales efficiently from clinical testing to commercial retail production.
